MEMPHIS, TN (April 25, 2008) Today EM Motorsports owner John Carter announced that Tony Raines would pilot the Rhino’s Energy Drink Dodge Charger in both the NASCAR Sprint Showdown and the NASCAR COCA-COLA 600.  The SPRINT Showdown will be contested on May 17th and will run in conjunction with the NASCAR SPRINT All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte.  Also at Lowes Motor Speedway, the forty-ninth annual COCA-COLA 600 will run on May 25th featuring a tribute to America’s Armed Forces.

 

Fans will have the opportunity to vote a driver from the Sprint Showdown race into the field for the NASCAR SPRINT All-Star Race. EM Motorsports driver Tony Raines is eligible for the fan vote based on his finishing position in the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP Series point standings. Fans may vote for Raines on Sprint phones by texting  "NASCAR" to 7777 then following the received directions (standard text messaging and data rates apply); at participating Sprint stores; and trackside at the Sprint Experience.

 

Driving a Ford F-150, for Kurt Roehrig Racing, Tony Raines NASCAR career began in the 1997 Craftsman Truck Series. In only his fifth series start, Raines won the Western Auto/Part’s America 200 at Odessa, Missouri. Overall, Raines has recorded 53 Craftsman Truck Series starts with 4 wins, 11 Top-Fives and 22 Top-Tens.

 

In 1999, Raines began running the NASCAR Busch Series for Bill Baumgardner and BACE Motorsports.  In 2001, Raines finished sixth in the Busch Series standings while driving for the BACE Motorsports team.  Raines has 192 Busch Series starts with 14 Top-Five and 47 Top-Ten finishes to his credit.

  

In 2003, Raines and BACE Motorsports moved to the NASCAR Sprint CUP Series and together scored an impressive sixth place finish in the POP Secret 500 at Rockingham.  2006 saw Raines join forces with Hall of Fame Racing, where he competed in 63 SPRINT CUP Series events during two seasons. During his career, Raines has competed in 117 SPRINT CUP Series races with 3 Top-Tens.
