family.
Carl's

Horace
Long,

competitor

NASCAR
Dash
Series,
a
touring
series
that
featured
cars
with
four-cylinder
engines.
In
1983,
Carl
began
his
racing
career
with
competition
at
both
South
Boston
and
Orange
County
Speedways.
In
1987,
Carl
won
the
track
championship
at
South
Boston
Speedway.
Carl
also
won
the
track
championship
at
Orange
County
Speedway
in
1990.
Carl
advanced
to
NASCAR's
Slim
Jim
All
Pro
Series
in
1997,
capturing
his
first
victory
at
Bristol
TN.

1998,
Carl
recorded
a

place
finish
in
his
first
NASCAR
Craftsman
Truck

race,
the
